| Thank
you, Lewis Burns and Ray Hampton, for a wonderful
time both in our shop and at this years Joshua
Tree Didgeridoo Festival. It was a pleasure
to see Lewis again and to curate his first US
art opening here at LA Outback. Lewis was in
high spirits and rare form despite the fact
that he had a fever the first few days around.
Lewis
brought his friend Ray Hampton along, who is
a fine Aboriginal dancer and a helluva nice
guy. Ray taught classes on Aboriginal dance,
tools and weapons both here in Laguna Beach
and at the Joshua Tree Didgeridoo Festival.
They were very well attended and everyone thoroughly
enjoyed the experience.
Lewis
and Ray are descendants of Aboriginal people
from the area around Dubbo in New South Wales,
Australia. They are both discovering and rekindling
their indigenous heritage. Lewis owns and operates
his own gallery in Dubbo, called the Red Earth
Gallery. We've been doing business with Lewis
for years, buying his hand crafted and burned/painted
didgeridoos. We especially appreciate that his
didgeridoos are crafted without the use of power
tools (something rarely found these days).
We
also wish to thank the Australia Council for
the Arts for their support. |
